Lower Track Rollers: Maintenance & Wear Guide
Proper maintenance of undercarriage parts is essential for reducing machine downtime. Here is a technical breakdown of lower track roller inspection.
1. Tread Wear Measurement
Measurement Method: The most critical wear point is the tread. Use a large outside caliper to measure the roller's smallest diameter.
Key Inspection Points: Due to the machine's rocking action, the greatest wear occurs at the front (nearest idler) and back (nearest sprocket). It is usually sufficient to measure these two points.
2. Excessive Side Flange Wear
Causes: Apart from operational conditions, this is often caused by misalignment or excessive slackness of the chain.
Solutions: Adjust chain tension and rotate rollers (swap positions). Note that double flange rollers have a longer life; consider fitting more of them for harsh conditions.
3. Top Flange Deformation
Causes: This structural damage is caused by contact with the link pin boss or the chain sliding over flanges due to exceptional wear of the chain rails or bottom rollers.
