CAT Wheel Loader Pin & Bushing Small Parts Important Jobs

loader bucket pin & bushing

On a wheel loader, pins and bushings are found at many of the working joints around the bucket and linkage.

They may look like simple steel parts, but they carry a lot of load and allow the linkage to move around its pivot points. The pin provides the main connection, while the bushing acts as the replaceable wear surface between moving components.

What do they actually do?

During loading, lifting and dumping, the bucket moves through repeated cycles. The pins keep the linkage components aligned and transfer the working load, while the bushings allow controlled movement at the joint.

When the bushing starts to wear, the clearance between the pin and bushing increases. The first signs can be a loose joint, increased play, unusual noise or less precise bucket movement. If the wear continues, the pin and even the linkage bore can be affected.

Why does the fit matter?

A good pin and bushing are not simply about having the correct diameter.

Pin diameter, bushing ID, hardness, surface finish and working clearance all need to work together. Caterpillar also describes pins and sleeve bearings as a system, with dimensions, materials, heat treatment and surface finish matched to the application.

For aftermarket replacement, this is something we pay close attention to.

We supply CAT wheel loader pins, bushings and linkage components for different models and applications, including parts for popular 950, 966, 972, 980 and 982 series machines.

A pin may be a small part. But when it wears, the whole linkage can feel it.
